Making a Difference

Angel Tree Ministry:

The Angel Tree Ministry that BMBC participates in is a part of the Prison Fellowship.  Throughout the year Prison Fellowship ministers to the children of prisoners.  They have summer camps, mentoring programs and numerous other activities throughout the year.  The goal is to make a difference in the lives of the inmates and their families through the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Prison Fellowship provides the following statistics about the number of children affected by having one or both parents in prison.

• There are 2.3 million children of prisoners

• 7.3 million children have a parent under some form of correctional supervision

• 22% of children with a parent in prison are under 5 years old; the majority are under 10; the average age is 8

• One in 5 children is present at the mother's arrest

• Children of prisoners are 6 times more likely to go to prison

• They are 7 times more likely to be involved in the criminal justice system
