Pastors & Staff

(Left to right: Karissa Thomas, Mitch Mitchell, Eric Stephens, Scott Barns)

Eric Stephens, Senior Pastor
Eric came to BMBC in November 2016. His personal mission is to glorify God by proclaiming the supremacy of Christ and fostering gospel culture wherever he lives, serves, and plays.
Previously, Eric served as Associate Pastor of Administration and Discipleship of First Southern Baptist Church Scottsdale, Senior Pastor of Hill Grove Baptist Church in Guston, KY, and Associate Pastor of Highland Baptist Church in Georgetown, IN. Originally from South Carolina, Eric spent much of his childhood living across the Southeast in a military family before serving 5 years in the United States Army. While in the Army in Tennessee, he met & married EmiLee in 1999. The Lord has richly blessed them with 6 children: Zachary, Judson, Emma, Will, Josiah & Josh.
If you want to know what gets Eric excited, here’s a good start: Jesus, his bride, his children & the Clemson Tigers athletic teams (especially football). He loves college football, baseball, family bike rides & movie nights, & reading a good biography.
Mitch Mitchell, Worship Pastor
The Bible has a lot to say about music, and Mitch’s role is to lead the church’s worship of God in a way that matches the character of God. Mitch is an accomplished musician. Mitch is married to Susie and they have four wonderful children: Johnny, Sarah, Curtis, and Cristina.
Karissa Thomas, Director of Children’s Ministry
Karissa was born & reared in Seattle, WA. She grew up involved in a private Christian school, Children’s Church, AWANA, and later Youth Group, but attributes her praying Mother for the development of her personal relationship with Jesus. Above all else, her Mommy showed her how to pray continually, how to love God, and how to always seek truth in God’s Word. She met her handsome hubby in Seattle while he was stationed at Ft. Lewis and married him just 10 months later. After 7 years of Army life, 7 different addresses in 4 different states, and 2 kids, they decided to settle down in Arizona. Karissa likes to spend her time with her two boys, Eli & Dillon, playing in the pool or at the playground, drinking lots of coffee, working on Home DIY projects, or on rock climbing dates with her hubby.
Scott Barns, Director of Student Ministry
Scott was reared all over the country with his father being an Air Force Chaplain. He professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. He attends Grand Canyon University and is pursuing a degree in Business Education. He has worked at Glorieta Camps in New Mexico where he had unique opportunities to lead and serve. He felt God calling him to serve as Black Mountain’s student ministry director in the fall of 2017. Scott’s goal is to bring students closer to Jesus through relationship-building and Bible teaching.
Lois Olson, Administrative Assistant
To say Lois is what keeps BMBC running during the week is an understatement. She keeps the staff on their toes and does all the media for the worship services. She is a teacher and the VBS Coordinator. Lois has one son, Rollie and a granddaughter she loves to spoil.
